The fast casual chain first began testing the program in Columbus, Kansas City and Phoenix last fall, and has been developing the idea of a digital-centric loyalty program for the last few years. Though Chipotle rolled out its points-based loyalty system nationwide yesterday, the upgrade itself has been a long time coming.
The coin will not be for retail customers, and is currently being tested for internal use by institutional customers looking to move large sums of money. The program, which was introduced in Columbus, Ohio, will be piloted in 10 markets before a nationwide rollout later in the year. But going forward … well, you might be surprised.
